{"id":2,"date":"2022-07-28T09:01:31","date_gmt":"2022-07-28T09:01:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/earthquake.net.au\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2026-01-13T15:55:51","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T05:25:51","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/earthquake.net.au\/index.php\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About us"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The SAA Inc is a group of professional and amateur seismologists, interested in earthquakes and building and running seismographs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SAA and its members currently operate over 20 seismographs in SA and a similar number in dense networks in Sydney and the ACT. The extra stations built and operated by SAA members<br>mean that earthquakes can be more accurately located and more can be deduced about the direction of movement. Apart from near the Adelaide, Sydney and Canberra areas, there are not yet enough seismographs to reliably calculate earthquake depth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The association was incorporated in South Australia in March 2017. It was previously an interest group, but became incorporated following the Geological Survey of South Australia announcing its intention to<br>discontinue the state seismograph network. The association continues to run much of this network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Objects of our Association are:<br>\u2022 to engage in and promote  the science of seismology and the recording of earthquakes in Australia<br>\u2022 to advise and assist people with what equipment to get, how to set it up and where to send the data so that it can be useful, and fill in gaps within the existing monitoring systems across Australia.<br>\u2022 to design and build instruments and recording hardware, run workshops and provide demonstrations and training to people and organisations such as schools interested in recording earthquakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We meet every few months on Zoom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/earthquake.net.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/saa-membership-application-form-2021.pdf\">Membership form<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The SAA Inc is a group of professional and amateur seismologists, interested in earthquakes and building and running seismographs.
